NEWPORT NEWS -- Newport News police believe the bullet that struck at 17 year old male last night, was not intended for him.

The teen was shot while walking with his younger sister along Warwick Boulevard near Colony Road.

Police said the victim heard gunshots, turned to his sister and told her he had been shot.  Bullets struck him in his  back and his arm. The two ran to a car wash to get someone to call for help.

"Unbelievable when I heard about it," said Linda Sackett who lives in the Denbigh area and frequently shops at the stores near where the shooting happened.

"You got to keep the kids in at night or keep them close by.  You just never know," she added.

Police said the victim recently moved to the area.  His shooter is still at large.
