Consumer Minute: Apple's big buy & Google Maps gets an upgrade

Apple is said to be in talks to buy Beats Electronics, the popular headphone maker co-founded by rap mogul Doctor Dre.  The reported $3.2 billion deal would also include the new Beats streaming service. The details are still being worked out, but the acquisition could be announced as early as next week.  If the deal goes through, it would be Apple's largest acquisition ever.

The so-called kill-switch bill has been approved by the California Senate. The legislation would require anti-theft technology on all new smartphones so owners can remotely disable a lost of stolen phone.
 
Google maps is getting some new features designed to help you get where you're going better.  The popular navigation app will now let drivers know which lane to be in so you don't miss your turn. Plus, you'll now be able to save frequently-used routes a little easier for offline viewing.
 
Breakfast giant Kellogg's is making a big announcement.  As part of a class-action settlement, some of its Kashi brand products will no longer be labeled "all natural."  Those formulas and labels will be changed by the end of the year.
