NEWPORT NEWS -- Two teenagers were found dead in the parking lot of Saunders Elementary School in Newport News early Thursday.
Police were called about a man who'd been shot who ran to a house on Katherine Court, which is adjacent to the school on Harpersville Road, around 1:30 a.m., said MPO Donald D. Watt, Jr.
While EMS got the man to the hospital, officers canvassed the area and found the bodies of two men at the school. Police aren't saying whether they had been shot.
It's unclear whether the incidents are connected.
Sheree Lane lives next to the school. She said her husband heard gunshots in the middle of the night but didn't see anything.
"Our property is next to the school yard. I didn't expect to see people dead back there," she said.
After what's happened, she says she'd not going to let her 12-year-old grandson play on the school property.
"It's scary because you don't know what's going to happen next," Lane adds.
The investigation continues. Anyone with information should call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
Meantime, officials told WVEC.com the Summer Adventure Program that is usually held at Saunders will be moved today to Deer Park Elementary School, which is located at 11541 Jefferson Avenue.
