The Navy's investigating the at-sea death of a Norfolk-based sailor.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Laquita Pate James, 23, of Orange Park, Fla., died Feb. 12 of apparent natural causes aboard the multipurpose amphibious assault ship the USS Bataan.

James was a Navy master-at-arms supporting operations off the Horn of Africa aboard the USS Bataan.

Bataan left Norfolk on January 4.

According to published reports in Florida, James' family says she was part of the Navy's military police and she leaves behind two sons, ages 16 and 11.

Also according to those reports, Navy officials told her father it would be at least two days before they can say exactly what killed James.

Her father told a reporter in Jacksonville that she'd talked to her kids over the weekend and had complained of having flu-like symptoms.
