05:25 PM EST on Tuesday, November 18, 2008
NORFOLK -- The crew of a Navy submarine returned home Tuesday afternoon – just in time for the holidays.
The chilly weather didn’t keep loved ones from waiting at the pier for USS Albany and her crew of 140 sailors.
"I'm freezing but just got warm when I see him," said Shacola Generals.
USS Albany has been gone seven months as part of USS Nassau Expeditionary Strike Group.
When MM2 David McNair deployed, his youngest son wasn’t talking but he is now.
"It's exciting to be back home. I've seen a lot of places and I think this is the best looking one yet," said McNair.
During the deployment to the 5th and 6th Fleet areas, the crew visited five countries, including Norway, Italy and France.
"I can't tell you how proud I am of the crew,” said Cmdr. Thad Nisbitt. "It was successful. That's one thing about our submarines. We are very stealthy, have lots of endurance - nuclear power. The fuel crisis didn't affect us at all. We were able to go to the world’s oceans and do our job and support the country."
The homecomings continue next with with Monday's arrival of USS Jacksonville.
