Norfolk-based Marine killed in Bahrain

Norfolk – A Norfolk-based Marine has been killed in Bahrain.

Lance Corporal Travis Stottlemyer, from Hatfield, PA, died August 17 as a result of a non-hostile incident in Manama, Bahrain, the Pentagon said. 

He was assigned to the 3rd Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team Company, Marine Corps Security Forces, Norfolk. 

In an email to 13News, a spokesman for II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, NC, said Stottlmyer joined the Marine Corps on Oct. 16, 2006, and was trained as an infantryman and Marine Corps security force guard, joining 3rd FAST Co  in May 2007.

He was promoted to the rank of lance corporal on July 1, 2007.

Stottlemyer’s decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons.
