Sailor killed in Afghanistan was in Norfolk in 2006

NORFOLK – A sailor who was based in Norfolk in 2006 was killed in northern Afghanistan.
Petty Officer Second Class Tony Randolph died Monday in an IED attack on his convoy.
Randolph was assigned to the Combined Security Transition Command, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 8, Sigonella, Sicily, and was part of a team conducting counter-improvised explosive device operations in Afghanistan.
He’d been overseas since March 2008.
According to the Navy, Randolph served at Joint Forces Staff College from January to December 2006, according to the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command.
Other military assignments included Naval Dive and Salvage Training Center in Panama City, Fla., Naval EOD School at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., and EOD Training and Evaluation Unit One in San Diego.
Randolph’s personal awards include the Bronze Star with Valor, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Ribbon.
