Langley jets flying at night
05:58 PM EDT on Tuesday, July 7, 2009
HAMPTON -- Jets based at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton will be doing night flying for several days this week.
The 1st Fighter Wing's F-22 Raptors and F-15 Eagles will take flight July 7 through 9 beginning around 1:00 p.m. and ending around midnight.
The Air Force says the night-time missions are necessary so pilots maintain their skills.
"It's extremely noisy, we know that, but it's extremely important for us that we're prepared to do whatever we're tasked with," explained Capt. Liggieri, who flies the F-15 with the 71st Fighter Squadron.
Officials also say the flights will keep within standard flight patterns with all in-flight training at a safe distance offshore.
