Maritime Civil Affairs Group commander relieved of duty

NORFOLK – The commander of Maritime Civil Affairs Group at NAB Little Creek has been relieved of duty.

Capt. Kenneth J. Schwingshakl
Capt. Kenneth J. Schwingshakl is temporarily reassigned to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command.
According to a release, Rear Adm. Mike Tillotson, Commander, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, cited a loss of confidence in Schwingshakl’s ability to command.
Capt. Schwingshakl had been in charge at MCAG since May 2007.
Capt. Bob McKenna, NECC’s training officer, is temporarily in command.
According to its Website, Maritime Civil Affairs Group conducts Civil Affairs activities and supports Civil/Military Operations. Civil Affairs activities enhance the relationship between military forces and civil authorities and involve the application of Civil Affairs Functional Specialty Skills in areas normally the responsibility of the civil government.
