HAMPTON -- Military families face many challanges. Deployments have been more frequent and sometimes longer.
For those with young children, a big concern is good yet affordable child care.
Gov. Tim Kaine visited the Child Development Center at Langley Air Force Base and gave it high praise.
"This one is in the top one or two percent in terms of physical facility and the programs they have here," he said.
It's part of a pilot project funded by the General Assembly. Children f rom the community who aren't necessarily military dependents or Dept. of Defense civilian dependents are in the same classroom with children from military families.
It's another way of expanding opportunities for early childhood education so they can succeed with then start kindergarten.
"The Langley Child Development Center has been a real model for a number of years and Hampton City Schools have worked very much in tandem with Langley and actually Newport News as well," Gov. Kaine noted.
Gov. Kaine hopes there will be additional revenue in the budget to fund early childhood education programs throughout the state.
