USS Scorpion Memorial Ceremony

NORFOLK (May 25, 2013) Cmdr. Seth Burton, commanding officer of USS Scranton (SSN 756) and Scranton Chief of the Boat, Senior Chief Fire Control Technician Josh Sturgill, present a wreath to wives of the crew of USS Scorpion (SSN 589) in honor of their husbands who lost their lives 45 years ago when Scorpion sank. Scorpion was reported overdue at Norfolk on May 27, 1968, and presumed lost on June 5, 1968. Norfolk-area submariners, former submariners and family members gathered at Norfolk Naval Station's Scorpion Memorial near Naval Station Norfolk's Pier 2 on May 25, to honor the memory of the 99 Sailors lost aboard the attack submarine.
