VIRGINIA BEACH - If you saw smoke around Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story on Tuesday morning, it was nothing to worry about.
The Navy ran an aircraft emergency exercise near Pier 1 and the Port Operations tower.
The 9:00 a.m. to noon operation simulated the crash of a small jet aircraft with 12 people onboard. The aircraft, in this exercise, had mechanical problems on approach to Norfolk International Airport.
The exercise tested the response of base personnel in emergencies that would involve casualties and a fuel spill.
It's also showed how well Navy personnel work with federal, state and local responders.
