VIRGINIA BEACH -- Residents of the Mayfair Mews Apartments are in the midst of having their world torn apart, but they seem to be surprisingly optimistic.

Some of the residents told 13News they are fortunate; in fact, they're part of a miracle.

No one was killed or seriously injured when the F/A 18 Hornet jet crashed into their apartment complex Friday.

Marie Benedetto is one of those residents who is still in good spirits, considering the circumstances.

"It's going to be hard for all of us to find a new place to live and start all over again. Most of us are senior citizens and this is so traumatic, but it's nothing compared to what it could have been," said Benedetto.

Benedetto was able to recover the most important thing in her home.

"The closet where my husband's ashes were was totally intact. How do you explain something like that? It's just another miracle, because it meant so much to me to have his ashes. They risked their lives to go in there and get them."

Benedetto is taking things one step at a time.  For now, she will be staying with her daughter.
