VIRGINIA BEACH--Navy officials say the pilots stayed with the jet until seconds before the crash, getting to an open spot in a highly populated area.  As the investigation continues, many recognize this really is about many parts of a community working together in a time of crises.

"We're going to come in, sort of parallel activity and work our way from the outside in, gathering all the parts, examining all the parts," said Admiral John Harvey.

Everything recovered, will make it's way back to Naval Air Station Oceana, which is where the two-person crew of the hornet took off Friday.  A mechanical malfunction is blamed for the crash.

Saturday, many are talking about the way the city, state and navy partnered with each other, and the way neighbors jumped in, to help however they could.

"We're so blessed, We truly believed a miracle has occured here with us not having any victims," said Mayor Will Sessoms.
