NORFOLK-There's a new leader for the Defense Logistics Agency's largest distribution center supporting the Navy.
Capt. Scott Hawkins relieved Capt. James Watts as the commander of DLA Distribution Norfolk in a change of command ceremony Thursday.
The Agency provides almost all the items for America’s military forces -- from food, fuel and energy, to uniforms, medical supplies, and construction and barrier equipment.
Watts has been in charge of the command since June 2010 and leaves DLA to be deputy commander, Military Services at Navy Exchange Command in Virginia Beach.
During his tenure, he led a staff of more than 600 military and civilian personnel across nine sites in four states. Watts' next duty assignment will be as deputy commander, Military Services at Navy Exchange Command, Virginia Beach.
Hawkins comes to Norfolk after serving as a senior procurement analyst for Office of the Secretary of the Navy's Research Development and Acquisition command.
Headquartered in New Cumberland, Pa., DLA Distribution operates a global network of 26 distribution centers that employ over 10,000 employees worldwide. DLA Distribution is a field activity of the Defense Logistics Agency.
