NORFOLK -- A Norfolk-based ship left Thursday on regular deployment to the Mediterranean and Persian Gulf.
USS San Jacinto, a guided missile cruiser, has a crew of about 355 sailors.
Once overseas, the ship will work with allies and make diplomatic port calls and conduct maritime security operations.
"It's pretty awesome. We're going out there to do the nation's business, whatever it may be," said LT j.g. Lincoln Kerger.
The ship and crew are expected to be gone about seven months.
