NEWPORT NEWS-They've been gone nine months and now they're just days from home.

About 20 soldiers from the 510th Human Resources Co., Special Troops Battalion, 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) will return from Afghanistan late Thursday night, the Army announced Tuesday.

Not even the snowy weather will keep them from getting back, officials told WVEC.com

During the deployment, the soldiers were responsible for casualty liaison operations: casualty reporting, casualty assistance and casualty notification. They also worked to keep distinguished visitors safe during visits, the Army added.

The unit is commanded by Capt. Jeffrey Davis.
