NORFOLK--The Navy will hold meetings later this month on plans for a practice landing field in Emporia or at Wallop's Island.
A preferred site hasn't been selected for the turboprop E-2 Hawkeyes and C-2 Greyhounds, which would conduct up to 20,000 passes a year.
The Navy says it needs a second field because Fentress Field in Chesapeake can no longer support all the training for aircraft of NAS Oceana and Chambers Field Norfolk.
The Navy said Thursday that it's completed environmental assessments of the sites. The document is posted online or you can review it at four locations: Richardson Memorial Library at 100 Spring Street, Emporia, Virginia, Emporia-Greensville Regional Library at 139 Airport Drive; Chincoteague Island Library at 4077 Main Street and Eastern Shore Public Library at 23610 Front Street in Accomack Co.
