PORTSMOUTH -- After nearly 15 years, the Naval School of Health Sciences on Naval Medical Center Portsmouth is no more.
It was dis-established Friday and will become part of the Tri-service Medical Education and Training Corps on Fort Sam Houston in Texas.
That move was ordered by the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission.
While the school at Portsmouth was officially established in October 1995, the Portsmouth center has trained Navy medical personnel for 108 years.
The school manages 11 medical training programs and is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education.
