DARE COUNTY, NC-A North Carolina-based Marine MV-22 Osprey started a small grass fire Friday on the Dare County Bombing Range.

The exhaust from one of the engines started the fire, which caused minor damage to the aircraft, officials said.

No one was hurt.

According to Cherry Point Public Affairs spokesperson 1st Lt. Alejandro Aguilera,  he does not know if the aircraft was preparing to take off or if it had been in flight and had landed.

Aguilera says the aircraft was taking part in a "training mission of some sort."

As for the minor damage to the aircraft, Aguilera says the Osprey is "absolutely air-worthy."

The aircraft is from the 2ND Marine Aircraft Wing based at Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C.
