NORFOLK -- The most famous lifeboat in recent martime history arrived in downtown Norfolk on Wednesday.
Pirates put Maersk-Alabama's captain, Richard Phillips, in the 28-foot lifeboat and then joined him as they tried to hold him ransome in April.
The stand-off ended April 12 with Phillips' rescue. One pirate was captured and three pirates were killed when Navy SEALs opened fire from positions aboard the Norfolk-based guided-missile destroyer USS Bainbridge.
The lifeboat shows some of those scars from the rescue.
Captain Phillips is expected in Norfolk on November 19 to publicly thank the crew of USS Bainbridge.
The exhibit, Piracy Today: Modern Terror on the High Seas, will open at the Hampton Roads Naval Museum inside Nauticus on November 21.
