YORKTOWN (AP) -- Officials are celebrating the groundbreaking of a new Marine Corps Security Force Regiment complex at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown.
The ceremony was held Wednesday.
The new $48.8 million complex includes a headquarters, barracks, transportation facility, warehouse and armory.
Naval Weapons Station Yorktown is currently home to Marine Corps Security Force Regiment headquarters staff and 2nd Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team Bravo Company.
Two other companies currently stationed at Naval Station Norfolk are slated to move once the project is completed by 2018.
The regiment provides forward deployed, expeditionary anti-terrorism and security forces to protect national assets worldwide.
