PORTSMOUTH -- A Coast Guardsman was convicted of sexually-related misconduct and sentenced Friday during a general court-martial at the Coast Guard Legal Service Command in Norfolk.

Petty Officer 1st Class Robert Crum, 28, was sentenced to a letter of reprimand, a $1,500 fine, reduction to pay grade E-4, restriction to Base Boston for 60 days and hard labor without confinement for 60 days.

Charged under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, Crum was convicted of two specifications of Article 93- Cruelty and Maltreatment and one specification of Article 120 - Wrongful Sexual Contact for engaging in sexually related misconduct, involving one junior Coast Guard woman.

Crum was also convicted of Article 107 – False Official Statements.

The crimes occurred between January 2011 and April 2012 while both members were assigned to a shore-based Coast Guard unit in Minnesota.

The Coast Guard is not releasing the name of the unit to protect the privacy of the victim.  The false official statement was made by Crum to investigators in January 2013.
