NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — The George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier is back in the hands of the Navy.
Northrop Grumman says that the ship was redelivered from its Newport News shipyard following a seven-month maintenance period.
The carrier left Newport News for final sea trials Wednesday and was redelivered to the Navy on Thursday evening in its homeport of Norfolk.
Officials say the work performed on the vessel included reconfiguring compartments, upgrades to combat systems and radar equipment, and minor repairs.
The Bush was first delivered to the Navy on May 11 and is the last ship of the 10-carrier Nimitz class.
