NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — The Northrop Grumman shipyard in Newport News is working to modernize the Navy's submarine fleet.
The Navy has awarded the company a $635 million contract to work on the Los Angeles-class and Seawolf-class submarines. Northrop Grumman says the work is scheduled to conclude in 2014.
The company says planning and engineering for upgrade modifications and modernization is part of an attack submarine's 33-year life.
