Va. Beach soldier dies from injuries suffered in Iraq

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) -- A soldier who was wounded in Iraq when a roadside bomb detonated in April has died from his injuries at a Texas Army hospital, the military said Tuesday.
Cpl. Shannon L. Squires, 25, of Virginia Beach, died Aug. 28 at Brooke Army Medical Center from injuries sustained April 21 on Main Supply Route Tampa, which runs from Syria to Kuwait, through Baghdad.
The Army says an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy.
Squires was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 321 Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Field Artillery Brigade, 18th Airborne Corps Artillery at Fort Bragg.
According to his obituary, Squires was a member of St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church and a graduate of Tallwood High School, class of 1999, in Va. Beach.
He was born in Alexandria.
