(HAMPTON) -- A Newport News man was found shot to death in a parking lot near Greenlawn Cemetery late Saturday night.

Police say 30-year-old Alphonsia Carter was dead when they found him lying on the ground in the 500 block of Shell Rd.

The neighborhood is located right on the border of Newport News and Hampton.

Officers were called to the scene around 8:30 after people in the neighborhood reported hearing several gunshots.

Police have not released any suspect information.
