Tracking device leads investigators to Beach chop shop
09:23 PM EDT on Thursday, October 11, 2007
Va. beach Police say they stumbled across a motorcycle chop shop while they were searching for a stolen motorcycle.
Last week, Jason Stailey walked outside to find his motorcycle missing from the parking spot right in front of his door.
13News Investigators found a search warrant that says Stailey’s bike has a small tracking device inside. That led them to Oceana Self Storage, where police found Stailey’s bike and two others that had been stolen.
“Just to know it’s that easy, that people can do that to anyone, sucks,” said Stailey.
According to a police document 13News obtained, officers found tools used to disassemble and conceal stolen motorcycles and parts.
Stailey bought a new bike, but according to the documents 13News found, his old one had not yet been chopped up. He was excited to hear police found the bike, but says he had no clue about it until 13News told him.
Stailey and his neighbors say until they get answers on what happened at the storage unit at Oceana Self Storage, and what the person who rented it had in mind, they’re taking precautions to protect themselves.
"All my neighbors have bikes and parking them different ways so they don't get out,” said Stailey.
