All-natural skin care is beautiful, healthy alternative
06:44 AM EDT on Friday, October 5, 2007
Going green with your skin care can make people green with envy.
In Your Own Skin: Skin Therapy Center in Virginia Beach uses all natural ingredients to help clients achieve healthy, beautiful skin.
“We normally have patients with sensitive skin and a lot of times they cannot use a lot of the chemical products, so I find myself really having to neutralize products for them," says Saphonia Gee, a licensed esthetician and co-owner.
Because the toners, masks, scrubs and moisturizers she formulates have no chemicals and preservatives, they must be refrigerated. She makes them fresh and in small amounts.
Gee says using raw ingredients gets you more benefit from different vitamins and minerals.
"If you are new going into the skincare, like you really don't do anything on your skin at all, this is a perfect way to actually start out. (You’re) Slowly getting in to taking care of your skin from a natural standpoint."
If the idea of natural and organic skincare products appeals to you, buyer beware, Gee notes. She says many companies, including Internet sites, tout 100 percent organic skincare products, but that may not be the case.
"Do your research. You really want to know if it's really organic or not," she adds.
On the popular Juice Beauty Website, we learned the US Department of Agriculture regulates organic food and other agricultural products, but skincare products aren’t covered by the regulation.
