Elephants enjoy the new misting station.
The weather’s not fit for man nor beast, but the elephants at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk are beating the heat.
The zoo on Wednesday opened a shade structure that includes a walk-through misting system. The 25’ x 50’ x 23’ structure was completed just yesterday. It has manual lifts for hanging hay and other treats.
These are hung at about 10 feet up so all the elephants, Monica, Lisa and Cita, can reach them. It also has a misting system to help drop the temperature even more under the shade, spokeswoman Amber Ricles explained.
"So far, it seems like the girls love it," she told WVEC.com.
