A woman on a boat may have been struck by lightning in Mathews County
Wednesday night.
The 28-year-old woman was one of several people in a boat on the East
River. The bolt struck near the boat and it may have passed through her.
They got to shore and the woman was taken to Riverside Walter Reed
Hospital in Gloucester.
“We don't know if she got struck directly," said Sheriff Danny Howlett.
"She was awake and oriented after she got out of transport.”
Hospital officials told WVEC.com the woman was treated and was observed
overnight but never admitted. She left the hospital Thursday morning.
Elsewhere, the heavy rains coupled with high winds made driving on some
roads nearly impossible. Some drivers on I-264 at Laskin Road in Va.
Beach decided to pull over rather than risk driving in the storm.
As of Thursday morning, Dominion Virginia Power reports about 4,900
people without power in the greater Hampton Roads area.
