Bond granted for NFL's Reid following arrest in Va. Beach
06:36 PM EDT on Monday, March 26, 2007
Bond was granted Monday afternoon to a Super Bowl-winning athlete arrested Sunday on gun and drug possession charges.
Norfolk native Dexter Reid was pulled over early Sunday at Dam Neck Road and General Booth Blvd. on suspicion of DUI, police said. That’s when they say they found a handgun and marijuana in his car.
“He's a fourth round draft pick, excellent young man. Right now, he's caught up with something he shouldn't have been," said Reid’s lawyer, Benjamin Hamlet.
Reid apparently told police he was unemployed.

Reid, 26, played at Granby High School and starred with the North Carolina Tar Heels.
In his three seasons in the NFL, he’s played on two Super Bowl teams – the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts. He was waived by the Colts just last month.
In court Monday, Reid admitted the drugs were for his personal use, not for distribution.
He also said he'd been in Hampton Roads for three or four days to visit loved one.
Reid told the judge he'd stay with his mother, who lives in Chesapeake.
This is Reid's second weapon charge. The first came three weeks ago in Mecklenburg County. Tonight, Reid is out on $10,000 bond.
