Women testify they saw Porter kill Officer Reaves
06:12 PM EST on Thursday, March 1, 2007
More witnesses to the murder of Norfolk Police Officer Stanley Reaves testified about events leading to his death on October 28, 2005.
It came on day three of testimony in the capital murder trial of Thomas Porter, underway in Arlington.
Five women inside a second-story apartment in Park Place testified that Porter, a man they’d never met, arrived with a family friend, looking for marijuana.

One woman said she told the men they didn’t have any.
A few minutes later, according to one woman’s testimony, Porter let the friend leave, but he stayed and locked the door.
The women said they asked Porter why he had his hands in his sweatshirt pocket and that he said ‘this is why’ and pulled out a small silver handgun.
Porter allegedly told the women, "I'll get it clappin' in here,' which is slang for starting shooting.
One of the women told the jury she looked out the apartment window and saw Officer Reaves, so she announced the police were at the apartment. That’s when, they say, Porter took off.
When the women looked out the window, they said they saw Porter put a gun to the officer’s head and pull the trigger.
