NEWPORT NEWS - Police are looking into whether or not the robbery of a Shell station Friday morning is connected to two bank robberies in two other cities that happened Friday afternoon.

A man wearing a fake beard robbed the Shell station around 9:40 a.m. Friday morning and police think he may have done the same thing last month.

In both cases, a man with a fake beard pulled a gun and robbed the Shell station at 948 J. Clyde Morris Blvd.

The earlier robbery happened on March 29the around 5:00 a.m. and each time, the gunman forced the manager to the back of the store to the safe to get money. After getting the cash, he left.

No one was hurt in either robbery.

On Friday around  2:55 p.m, a man fitting that same description robbed the Bayland Federal Credit Union at 7031 Richmond Rd in James City County.

The suspect was described as a black male, 5’ 8” – 6’ tall, thin build, wearing a dark colored hoodie with an orange reflective safety vest, blue jeans, white tennis shoes, light colored gloves, sunglasses, and a fake beard.

He walked up to the teller and brandished a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded money. He took an undisclosed amount of cash from two different tellers before leaving the bank on foot.

About 20 minutes prior to the robbery, James City County Police received a 911 call from an unknown person reporting that there were several armed suspects with masks behind Lafayette High School.

The call was found to be false.

.Police believe that the fake call was made to divert police away from the area of the bank prior to it being robbed.

James City County Police say they are working with Newport News Police and York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office to determine if the same subject is responsible for the robbery of the Shell Station in Newport News and a BB & T Bank in York County that occurred shortly after the Bayland robbery Friday afternoon.

The BB & T bank robbery happened around 3:22 p.m.  Police responded to the robbery in the 6700 block of Mooretown Road in the Lightfoot area of the county.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing a mask with a fake beard, a black hat and wearing a traffic vest.  The suspect displayed a black pistol.

The man left the area with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Anyone with information about any of the robberies is asked to call the Crimeline at  1-888-LOCK-U-UP
