FRANKLIN -- Officers are searching stores in a Franklin shopping center for two suspected burglars.

An officer on patrol around 5 a.m. saw two people behind behind a shopping center on Armory Drive and had reason to believe a vacant theater had been burglarized, Capt. Tim Whitt told WVEC.com.

Officers set up a perimeter and, after waiting about four hours, they went inside.

"No one there, but the roof hatch to the theater was open, and they may have escaped to other businesses in the center," Whitt added.

Much of the parking lot has been blocked off  while officers are searching adjoining businesses.

Once the situation has been cleared, officers will work to determine whether anything was taken from the old theater and will look for the two men.
