UPDATE: No children were found in the home; two cats have been rescued, according to firefighters. Two adults were displaced. The house was condemned due to significant smoke damage.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

NEWPORT NEWS -- Firefighters are searching a burning home after reports that children may be inside.

Crews were called to Macirvin Drive in the Hidenwood section around 11:15 a.m. and found flames pouring from the home.

Battalion Chief Jack Carper says the caller stated that there may be two children inside the home.

He says  firefighters are conducting a primary search and making an aggressive interior fire attack at this time.

Police tell WVEC.com that Critten Lane and Macirvin Drive are blocked for the firefight.
