PORTSMOUTH-Police say a youth minister in Portsmouth had inappropriate contact with two children at the church.
29-year-old Brian M. Norris knew them through youth group activities at Western Branch Baptist Church, according to Det. Misty Holley.
"At this time we have 2 victims, but our detectives believe there may be more," she told WVEC.com.
Norris was at the church for six years, she added.
Lead Pastor Dr. Walter Black said Wednesday that Norris dealt with youngsters who were in grades 6 through 12, many of whom attend Churchland High School.
He stressed that the church has contacted the school and is working to notify the congregation of the allegations.
In a statement to 13News, Black said "All of this came up very quickly and we were notified last night of the accused arrest. We are working with the investigators and have placed the accused of administrative leave pending the investigation. We want to be Christ-like in our actions towards the accused and his family, yet at the same time cautions toward our youth and our church family."
Norris was arrested at his home in Chesapeake on November 5 on charges of indecent liberties by custodian involving children under age 18.
Police ask anyone with information about the allegations to call the Portsmouth Police Department’s Special Victim’s Unit at 757-393-8536.
