YORK COUNTY -- Devastating storms have cost some York County families a lot of stress and money over the years.  Now, a handful of them are about to get a break.

Grants have been approved to elevate seven homes in the Dandy, Dare and Seaford areas of the county.

Carol Baker can't wait for her house to be raised out of harm's way.

"I've had two sets of washers, driers and refrigerators and kitchens, so I've had to redo my house twice," she said.

"It has to be done within two years and its going take 6 months," noted Baker.

The federal government and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management will pick up 95% percent of the cost. Homeowners have to pay the rest.

Remembering when she got the news Baker said, "I screamed, I'm like 'Yes.' I was really excited."
