VIRGINIA BEACH -- Virginia Beach Police believe the deaths of a woman and her son are a murder-suicide.

Authorities were called to Nader Street around 9:00 p.m. Monday after someone called asking them to check on the woman in the home.

MPO Adam Bernstein says officers found Michaelene Martin, 71, dead in the home.

Her son, Vincent McCoy, 46, was in the home and refused to come out, according to police, so SWAT and negotiators were called to the scene.

Shortly after 4:00 a.m. Tuesday, the SWAT team entered the home and found McCoy dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The investigation continues.

Va. Beach Schools officials say Martin held several different jobs for the system from 1979 until her retirement in 2007, when she was working as a cafeteria assistant at Brandon Middle School.
