10/24 UPDATE: Police say neighbors reported hearing a woman and several men talking outside in the moments before the shooting. The conversation was not heated, they told police.
The man who lives at the house where Williams was killed said she'd visited him earlier in the day and didn't know she'd returned. He also reported hearing people talking outside his home and then heard gunfire and that's when he found her body. No suspects or motive in this homicide.
10:50 a.m. UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Michelle Williams of Hampton. She didn't live at the home; previous resided in the 400 block of Catalpa Ave., police said.
Williams and Alonzo Lewis were roommates up until June when they split and moved in with family to save money.
"I don't know who would want her dead. I don't know why she would be on Greenbriar. Her mother lives two streets over," said Lewis.
Williams has a 12-year-old daughter.
HAMPTON - A woman was found shot to death in the front yard of a house in Hampton early Friday Hampton Police found the woman in the grass of the Greenbriar Avenue home, near Kecoughtan Road, just after midnight. She'd been shot in the upper body.
Thomas DeBraux IV said he was in his bedroom when he heard the gunshots. He hit the ground and then went to check on his dad to make sure he was okay. After that, he went outside and saw the woman on the ground.
I checked on her, she wasn't breathing, he said.
Another neighbor said she heard four or five shots, but when she walked outside she didn't see or hear anything. Then, a few minutes later, officers arrived.
Investigators spent about four hours gathering evidence and talking to potential witnesses.
No suspect or motive information is available.
