UPDATE 3/4:  A Newport News woman charged with arson and malicious wounding turned herself into police Monday.

Kimberly Smith, 46, is accused of setting a home on fire Sunday night in the 1100 block of 18th Street. 

A man who was asleep in the home suffered burns on his arm and was taken to a local hospital, police said.

Police told 13News Now that Smith works at a nursing home as a certified nursing assistant.

The Newport News Fire Department is conducting the investigation.

NEWPORT NEWS -- One person has been charged in connection to a late-night fire in Newport News Sunday.

Firefighters responded to in the 1100 block of 18th Street around midnight and found smoke and fire at the front of the residence, according to a fire department news release.

One person outside the residence suffered burns and was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center.

Police charged 46-year-old Kimberly Renee Smith with arson and malicious wounding, according to the release. She lives in the 1100 block of 18th St.

The incident remains under investigation.
