UPDATE: Police have charged Michael Anthony Collins, 30, of the 200 block of Brook Lane in York County with one count of robbery. He was sent to the Newport News City Jail.

Police say a photo of Mr. Collins will be released once doing so will not jeopardize the ongoing investigation.

NEWPORT NEWS -- Police detained a possible suspect in a Newport News credit union robbery Wednesday.

According to police, a man came into the BayPort Credit Union on Denbigh Street around noon, said he had a weapon and handed the teller a note demanding money.

The man fled the scene with cash. 

The driver of a tractor-trailer saw the suspect drive off in a pickup and gave a description to police.

A person was later detained by police.  No further information has been released.
