UPDATE 10:30 p.m.: Officials have reopened the bridge but say driving conditions continue to be hazardous.
PORTSMOUTH -- The latest round of winter weather has caused officers to close the West Norfolk Bridge.
Around 8 p.m. the Portsmouth Police Department shut down all traffic heading westbound on I-164 toward the West Norfolk Bridge from downtown Portsmouth.
Officers also shut down the roadway for all eastbound traffic on I-164 heading toward the Midtown Tunnel at the APM terminals on ramp.
Police tell 13News Now at least five accidents were contributed to the pour conditions on the bridge.
This closure is due unsafe and worsening roadway conditions as a result of the snowfall.
Police ask that drivers avoid this route as you are traveling home.
