Warehouse demolition
NORFOLK -- Norfolk Vice Mayor Anthony Burfoot got behind the wheel of a bulldozer to start a demolition that will lead to the expansion of Broad Creek.
The City bought the former Haynes warehouse on Ballentine Blvd. three years ago.
A man who lives in Broad Creek is happy it's being razed.
"It's about time that dilapidated building went down," he stated.
In partnership with the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority, Norfolk is transforming an 81-acre former public housing site into a mixed-income, mixed-use urban village.
There are no immediate plans for the lot, city officials said.
Demolition and clean-up will take about two months.
