HAMPTON -- George E. Wallace has been elected the mayor of Hampton.

Wallace was appointed interim mayor in October, after Mayor Molly Ward resigned to become special assistant to the president and deputy director for the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.

Wallace beat out Frank J. Ottofaro, Jr. for the coveted special election seat.

"I have a track record of success. And I think it's because of [voters] sincerities and their beliefs that I want to continue to make Hampton the best city it can possibly be," Wallace said.

Linda D. Curtis has been elected to replace his seat on the city council.

In the race for the school board seats, Joseph C. Kilgore claimed victory in the Chesapeake Bay District Seat A with more than three-fourths of the votes. Jason S. Samuels beat out his competition in the Hampton Roads District Seat A race.
