VIRGINIA BEACH (AP) -- Virginia Beach Human Services director Bob Morin is stepping down.
Morin's resignation is effective March 1.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that Morin announced his resignation in a letter sent to City Manager Jim Spore on Monday. The letter said Morin's departure gives the Human Services Department an opportunity to build a new leadership team.
Morin also wrote that it's an opportunity for him to pursue other alternatives.
The Virginia Department of Social Services conducted a review of the city department last summer following the death of a 10-month-old boy in foster care. According to the review, staff described the department's leadership as largely ineffective, distant and unresponsive to its needs.
