HAMPTON -- Hampton Police are trying a different approach to reduce youth violence.

The police division recorded a music video to reach young people before they get in trouble, and to give them hope if they've already been in trouble with the law.

In 2013, the city had 21 homicides -- 14 of the suspects or the victims involved were juveniles.

"That's a scary fact and a very scary trend," said police spokesman Sgt. Jason Price.

Officer Leon Robertson wrote the lyrics and Officer Chris Reyes sang the song.

The video is posted on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. During the first two hours it had 6,000 views.
