ACCOMACK COUNTY - Who's setting fires in Accomack County?
There have been 44 arsons since mid-November 2012 and investigators think most were started by several people who are working together. The others, they believe, were done as copycat crimes.
“Solving crimes like these does require public participation. It’s that one tidbit of information that an Accomack County resident knows about that’s going to affect the arrest and successful prosecution of the person(s) responsible,” said Capt. T.A. Reibel, Commander of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Chesapeake Field Office.
He said State Police investigators have developed several strong leads as to who may very possibly be behind these fires.
All the fires were set during the overnight hours at abandoned buildings. In some cases, several fires in different areas of Accomack County were set the same night.
Virginia State Police say there are more than 600 abandoned structures in Accomack County.
There's a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest/conviction of those involved.
