VIRGINIA BEACH -- A draft report on alternative energy for Va. Beach will be reviewed for the first time Thursday night.
The Mayor’s Alternative Energy Task Force met six times last year to review the latest developments in wind power, natural gas, algae for biodiesel fuel, wave and tidal current energy, offshore drilling for oil and gas, solar power and climate change.
The task force has listened to presentations from Dominion Power, Virginia Natural Gas and the Virginia Coastal Energy Research Consortium, among others.
No decisions have been made and won’t be until the Mayor and the Task Force have reviewed it, discussed it and decided what next steps to take.
The group expects to issue recommendations this year on possible new energy sources for the city and Commonwealth.
