VIRGINIA BEACH-- There was some high-flying training for the Virginia Beach Fire Department Thursday.
Fourteen firefighters from Company Ten Technical Rescue Team were training for high tower rescues.
The firefighters climbed up 150 feet and went through a number of scenarios. Some lowered sick workers to the ground, while others lowered simulated victims in a basket.
Captain John Rigolo with the Virginia Beach Fire Department said the training would be useful when dealing with the upcoming offshore windmills.
"(We're) training for a scenario like that, where workers will be on these towers, or even trespassers will be on these towers, and they need to be rescued," Rigolo said.
Virginia Beach Fire Department secured a grant from the state to cover the cost of the training for 28 firefighters who will take part in the program.
